• The normal resting heart rate of a dog is 80 to 120 beats per minute. To check your own dog's heart rate, place your hand on his chest and count the beats for 15 seconds, then multiply by 4 to get the number of beats per minute. Do your checking when your dog is at home resting, not right after a play session.
  • Safe, yet great cat toys for little or no cost: Paper bags-not plastic- without handles attached, empty toilet paper/paper towel rolls, aluminum foil or paper "balls", plastic milk jug rings, empty cardboard boxes or plastic straws tied in the middle. They love to bat lightweight toys around and jump in and squeeze into any size of box-even shoe boxes which are sometimes too small for them!
